Da Nang Surpasses 7-Month International Tourist Count Equal to Yearly Target

Da Nang has welcomed 2.5 million international visitors in just 7 months, meeting the annual target, signaling robust growth in the tourism sector.

According to the Da Nang City Statistics Office, the city’s tourism figures have shown growth in the first seven months of 2024. International arrivals in Da Nang reached 2.5 million, a 34.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023, hitting the target set for the entire year. Overnight international visitors are estimated at 2.3 million, up 27.4% year-over-year.

Nationwide, Vietnam received nearly 10 million international visitors over the same period, achieving about 58% of the annual target. Major destinations like Hanoi recorded 3.6 million international arrivals, targeting 5 million for the year. Ho Chi Minh City welcomed over 2.6 million international tourists by the end of June, reaching nearly 45% of its annual goal.

Khanh Hoa province welcomed nearly 2.8 million international visitors in the first seven months, achieving 93% of the annual target. Phu Quoc is estimated to have received over 562,000 international tourists, meeting nearly 85% of its yearly goal.

The statistics also show that travel and tourism support services for international visitors are on the rise. In July, Da Nang saw over 50,000 international tourists arriving on tours, a 16.5% increase from the previous month and an 87% increase compared to the same period last year. Over the first seven months, the number of international tourists traveling on tours in Da Nang increased by 45.6% year-over-year.

Da Nang also saw growth in domestic tourism, with an estimated 4.2 million domestic visitors in the first seven months of 2024, a 31.9% increase compared to the same period last year. According to a survey by Booking.com in May, Da Nang was the most searched and booked destination among Vietnamese travelers for the period from June 15 to August 15.

In the first seven months, the number of domestic day visitors was estimated at over 1.5 million, while international day visitors were estimated at 146,000, leading to a 52.7% increase in total day visits compared to the same period last year. The Da Nang City Statistics Office attributes the increase in day visitors to the rise in group tours, where tour groups often book short stays at accommodation facilities during their sightseeing and recreational activities.

Revenue from accommodation and dining services in Da Nang during the first seven months is estimated at VND 15,700 billion, a 23.5% increase compared to the same period last year. The strong development of tourism is attributed to the continuous organization of events that attract both domestic and international visitors, particularly the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival held from June 8 to July 13, which created a booming summer tourism season in Da Nang.

Additionally, the increased promotion of MICE tourism (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) to travel agencies has also contributed to the vibrant tourism activity.
